Hey y’all! Summer’s here, school is out tomorrow, and I have to work super intentionally at getting our blog posts. Summer is actually my busiest, laziest time of the year-everyone is home, we don’t have to do anything but we want to do everything, and I’m rarely alone. I’m setting up quiet time each day, while the toddler naps, that will require my kids to have independent play and reading while I write/edit for an hour or two-so hopefully I don’t get too far behind! Hold me accountable if you see me slacking on posting though.
Today, I want to share with you how I’m working towards one of my mommy goals for the year and a shorter term one for the summer. One of my 25 in 2016 goals is to be able to run a mile in less than ten minutes. Since I’ve been cleared to do any and all exercise and we’re getting back into a routine, I want to use this summer to get healthier and work hard on that goal. How am I getting healthier?

Firstly, food. We’ve slacked a lot while I was pregnant and first post partum and I’ve yet to completely get back on eating healthy most the time. I’m not about to deny myself yummy treats in the form of chips or ice cream, but I also recognize eating some of those things almost daily has made my body not feel as great as it can. I’m spending a lot of time planning dinners and snacks for myself and trying to cut down on the eating of not so natural things. I’ll still be eating my spaghetti, though! What kind of Italian woman can give that up completely?? I will be sharing a few tips on meal prep and snacking prep when you have a hundred children. We honestly eat pretty healthy for the most part as a family, so I’m excited to share some more of our recipes and moving towards less processed things.

Secondly, I’m being more intentional about getting moving. I was gifted a Fitbit and I’m loving it. I’ve always been less of a mover and this really challenges me to make sure I’m moving while I’m just home in the day. The kids are here as well, so I’m expecting lots of moving, swimming, and hiking this summer. I’ll be sharing a few ways to get busy with kids in tote, including one featuring my favorite hiking places in the Berkshires with kids of all ages. At this point, I’m not weighing myself more than before. I checked to see what it was this morning for a starting idea, but that’s not going to be a big part of my aim. Yesterday I walked about 10K steps. My goal is to get 30K a day by the first day of school.
I can’t wait to share in this journey with you as well. It’s all about how I feel and being able to keep up with three silly boys, so it may not be a great weight loss journey to follow but if you want to travel along with my journey to healthier…I hope you have your bags ready!
